Reyman Bros. Completes Miracle Makeover of Church

September 22nd, 2009

Reyman Bros. is in high spirits after successfully renovating the St. Mary’s in the Mountains Catholic Church in Virginia City.

Built in 1870, this church’s construction and spire made it a holy monument of the Comstock. After decades of enduring the high, dry climate of Virginia City, it was high time to return the historic edifice to its original state. Thankfully, guardian angels were watching over Reyman Bros.’ team as they worked at near-heavenly heights to rebuild the monument and add the roof. Now, the $2.2 million dollar project is finally complete.

The major challenge of this tough job was to preserve the historic look of the church, while building a sturdy, durable exterior. Luckily, Reyman Bros. was up to the challenge, and we faithfully took the project on one small step at a time. We re-plastered, braced the walls and encouraged workers to reach completion by their target date.  And Halleluiah … we did it!

Reyman Bros. praises their workers on effectively reinforcing the structure of the church through extensive scaffolding and the addition a new concrete skeleton. We also toughened the building interior and brick walls with concrete to ensure that the church is less susceptible an act of God…like an earthquake.

But that’s not all we renovated. Reyman Bros. added a choir loft, hardwood flooring and classy chandeliers to complete the traditional look of the historic church. The church’s prayers were answered when they received two grants contributed by the Diocese of Reno and the National Park Service, and we at Reyman Bros. are blessed to have been awarded this work.
