As school security standards evolve, WCSD recognized that existing entryways across multiple campuses in Reno and Sparks, NV did not meet modern protection requirements. With over 3,000 students combined attending these institutions daily, ensuring a secure check-in process was a top priority.

Key challenges included:

• Aging Infrastructure: Existing entryways lacked modern bullet-resistant materials.
• Tight Timelines: All substantial work was requested to be completed within a single summer to avoid disrupting the school year.
• Technical Scope: The 5 school project required customized framing, new pass-through systems, and voice communication technology

The Strategy

Reyman Brothers Construction worked closely with WCSD to develop a rapid execution plan that met security requirements without compromising design or functionality.

Phase 1: Pre-Construction Planning

• Conducted site assessments for all five school locations.
• Established a preliminary schedule to optimize workflow across sites.
• Began procurement for specialized bullet-resistant glazing and framing materials.

Phase 2: Installation & Execution

• Standard glass was replaced with Level 3 bullet-resistant glazing at all entry points.
• New framing or re-framing of openings was performed to integrate secure transaction windows.
• Additional security features installed, including:
  • Voice ports and microphone systems for communication.
  • Deal trays and pass-through boxes for document and item exchange.
  • Bullet-resistant window film in selected areas for enhanced protection.

Phase 3: Quality Control & Finalization

• Conducted standard inspections to ensure all installations met or exceeded building standards.
• Worked with WCSD to verify entry modifications were approved.
